Senior/Lead Search Developer
Join a large-scale e-commerce and retail technology project for a leading North American automotive parts retailer. The team develops and enhances high-performance search and data platforms that power product discovery and customer experience across thousands of retail locations and digital channels. The project focuses on building scalable backend services, optimizing search relevance, and processing large volumes of product and customer data using modern cloud-native technologies.
Essential functions
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and optimize enterprise search solutions using Apache SOLR, LucidWorks, and SearchStax.
- Develop and enhance RESTful APIs for internal and customer-facing applications.
- Process and transform large datasets using Apache Spark.
- Deploy, monitor, and optimize applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data engineers, and QA engineers, to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Improve search relevance, performance, and scalability for high-traffic applications.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Java backend development.
- Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
- Hands-on experience with Apache SOLR, including search indexing, querying, and performance optimization.
- Experience with LucidWorks Query Pipeline and SearchStax.
- Strong understanding of REST API design and development.
- Experience processing large datasets with Apache Spark.
- Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong SQL and data-oriented programming skills.
- Experience troubleshooting and optimizing distributed search and backend systems.
- Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher English level.
Would be a plus
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Agile development practices.
