Senior QA Engineer (Java + Spark SQL)
We're looking for a Senior QA Java Engineer with strong Spark SQL skills to join a team working at the intersection of Java-based systems and big data/analytics. This role is ideal for a quality-focused engineer with strong technical depth in both traditional QA/test engineering and data validation across large-scale data pipelines. You'll play a key role in ensuring the reliability and correctness of systems that combine Java-based applications with big data technologies like Spark and Hadoop.
Essential functions
- Design, execute, and maintain test strategies for Java-based applications and data pipelines
- Validate data integrity and correctness across large-scale datasets using strong SQL and Spark SQL skills
- Write and execute complex queries involving aggregations to verify data outputs
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify, document, and resolve quality issues
- Participate in requirements gathering and translate business needs into test scenarios
- Support database migration validation and API response testing as needed
- Be available for occasional late-hour meetings to coordinate with distributed/global teams
Qualifications
- Good proficiency in Java (or basic Scala with a strong Java background)
- Significant experience in Quality/Test Engineering
- Strong skills in querying and understanding databases
- Strong Spark SQL skills, including working with aggregates
- Theoretical knowledge of the Hadoop tech stack
- Theoretical knowledge of Spark and Apache Airflow
Would be a plus
- Willingness to join late-night meetings occasionally (not a regular requirement)
- Familiarity with database migration tasks and validating API responses
- General familiarity with Airflow and Spark
- Practical (hands-on) experience with the Hadoop tech stack
- UI testing skillset (bonus)
