Senior Software Engineer (Golang+Java)

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (RCS & Business Communications) to join a high-impact, global business communications team partnering with a Tier 1 Big Tech leader. In this role, you will design and implement high-scale backend feature improvements for next-generation Rich Communications Services (RCS) and enterprise messaging platforms powering communications for hundreds of millions of users worldwide. You will independently transform Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) into robust software designs, database schema evolutions, and production-grade implementations. You will own changes end-to-end across high-throughput distributed systems built on Java, Go, and large-scale cloud backends, where extreme reliability, scalability, and performance are non-negotiable.

Essential functions

• Feature Design & Architecture: Review Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and independently produce software designs, database schema changes (e.g., Google Spanner/MySQL), and implementation roadmaps meeting strict client specifications.
• Backend Systems Development: Design, write, and maintain production-quality backend software and automated tests in Java and Go, adhering to high engineering standards for server-to-server communications and RPC systems.
• High-Scale Distributed Engineering: Build and optimize resilient, scalable services handling synthetic calls, RPC workflows, and real-time messaging pipelines operating at global scale.
• Database & Data Modeling: Modify, optimize, and maintain complex relational and distributed database schemas to support new messaging features and system evolutions.
• Technical Documentation & Quality: Author clear, engaging developer documentation (tutorials, code samples, architecture specs) and ensure comprehensive automated test coverage for all code changes.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with local client engineers, product managers, and global technical teams in Kirkland to align on delivery goals, code reviews, and architectural standards.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineering Experience: 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience delivering robust, maintainable server-side platforms.
• Large-Scale Cloud Environments: 3+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining services in large-scale cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, or proprietary Big Tech cloud infrastructure).
• Dual Language Mastery: 3+ years of professional production experience using both Java and Go programming languages.
• Database Schema Experience: Demonstrated background writing or modifying database schemas in relational or distributed databases (e.g., Google Spanner, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Education & Communication: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. Fluent written and spoken English with strong technical communication skills.

Would be a plus

• Big Tech Internal Tooling: Knowledge of Google's internal software development tools and frameworks (e.g., Piper, TAP, Boq) or prior experience working directly with Big Tech internal backends.
• Distributed Systems Mechanics: Hands-on experience with synthetic calls, RPC frameworks (gRPC), server-to-server communication protocols, and low-latency reliability engineering.
• AI & Rich Messaging Integrations: Familiarity with AI-driven workflows (Gemini function calling, Vertex AI Studio, prompt engineering) and modern rich messaging APIs (RBM, WhatsApp Business, Apple Business Messages).
• Developer Advocacy: Proven capability to write clear developer documentation, API tutorials, and technical guides.
