Senior Site Reliability Engineer

We are hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to champion the availability, performance, and scaling of customer-facing production services across our client’s global infrastructure and Alibaba Cloud environments. In this role, you will build and operate world-class observability systems that analyze billions of metrics per minute, ensuring seamless, 100% reliable experiences for hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

This is a contractor position.

Working hours: Overlap with CST time zone.

Essential functions

• Own, monitor, and defend the availability, latency, and performance metrics (SLIs/SLOs) of customer-facing production services.
• Maintain and optimise customer-serving production environments, including AliCloud services (ACK Kubernetes, ECS, Serverless, RDS)
• Manage external-facing networking, content delivery, and load balancing (SLB/ALB, Global Traffic Manager, AliCloud CDN) to ensure minimal latency for users worldwide.
• Maintain zero-downtime deployment pipelines so new features ship safely and continuously without disrupting customer workflows. Spinnaker experience a plus.
• Build customer-centric dashboards and alerting frameworks using Prometheus, Grafana, and AliCloud Log Service (SLS) to catch and resolve user-facing issues before they generate support tickets.
• Drive incident response and management for production systems, conducting deep root-cause analysis across software, systems, automation, and process.

Qualifications

• Proven experience developing production-grade software in Python (scripting/automation proficiency in Python, and scripting in Bash, Go and Rust exposure a plus).
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating user-facing applications on Alibaba Cloud, with strong container orchestration experience using ACK (or equivalent Kubernetes experience).
• Solid experience using Terraform for infrastructure-as-code and version-controlled production environments. Pulumi experience a plus.
• Experience/knowledge with the Prometheus ecosystem.
• Experience and confidence around incident response and incident management.

Would be a plus

• Cross-border optimisation experience, specifically using AliCloud Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) or Express Connect to link China-mainland and global markets.
• Experience securing tenant data using AliCloud RAM, KMS, and ensuring compliance (ISO 27001, SOC2, or local data privacy laws).
• Alibaba Cloud Certified Professional (ACP) or Expert (ACE) certification.
