We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to join our team. This role offers the chance to work on complex data systems that support critical business operations at scale. Responsibilities
- Plan Cassandra cluster deployments by estimating data volume and determining hardware requirements based on projected data size and transaction load
- Set up, install, and configure new Cassandra clusters from the ground up
- Employ monitoring tools to track cluster availability and overall performance
- Export stored data into various formats as needed for downstream use
- Apply primary and secondary indexes appropriately to enable efficient data querying
- Carry out backup and restore procedures to protect the system against potential failures
- Fine-tune performance settings related to the Java Virtual Machine, caching mechanisms, and compaction processes
- Run stress tests against Cassandra clusters and interpret the resulting performance metrics
Requirements
- A minimum of three years of hands-on, relevant professional experience
- Deep knowledge of designing and building Cassandra or other NoSQL database systems
- Any exposure to Astra or AWS Keyspaces platforms
- Practical skill in Cassandra data modeling, NoSQL architecture design, and managing keyspaces, tables, indexes, user creation, and access permissions
- Solid understanding of Cassandra's internal mechanisms, including the gossip protocol, hinted handoffs, read repair processes, and Merkle trees
- Working knowledge of Linux systems and Java configuration
- Familiarity with MongoDB
- Understanding of tombstone management and garbage collection/purging processes
- Experience administering, maintaining, and supporting clusters using tools such as Opscenter, Devcenter, Linux, and Spark
- Ability to write CQL queries to support integration with Cassandra clusters
- Basic experience configuring CI/CD pipelines
- Solid communication skills with English fluency at a B2 level or higher, enabling clear understanding of business requirements and their translation into agentic architectures
Nice to have
- Experience working with DataStax Enterprise (DSE)
- Familiarity with AWS services, including at minimum Elastic Compute, S3, and IAM
- Background integrating systems with Solr and Spark
- Exposure to automation and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or TeamCity
- Knowledge of Terraform, CloudFormation, and Python
