We are looking for a Lead Java Developer to drive an AWS ProServe mainframe modernization effort converting COBOL/JCL logic into Java microservices on AWS. You will use agentic AI to speed up spec, code, and IaC generation while validating functional equivalence and refining service designs.
Responsibilities
- Convert decomposed COBOL and JCL business logic into cloud-native Java microservices using Spring Boot and modern architectural patterns
- Use agentic AI tools to produce microservice specifications, modernized application code, and Infrastructure as Code from reverse-engineered mainframe components
- Verify AI-generated outputs for functional equivalence to original mainframe logic, then find and close transformation gaps
- Review and adjust mappings from mainframe constructs to target Java microservice implementations to preserve business logic
- Partner with architects to improve microservice designs, tune service boundaries, and implement appropriate API contracts
- Document transformation choices, architectural patterns, and integration specifications to enable knowledge transfer and ongoing maintenance
Requirements
- Proven record of 5+ years of Java development with advanced Spring Boot expertise
- Strong command of microservice architecture style and related design practices
- Hands-on proficiency with AWS Mainframe Modernization services and application modernization approaches
- Solid reading comprehension of COBOL, JCL, and VSAM file structures
- Working knowledge of CICS transaction processing on IBM Mainframe
- English proficiency at B2+ (Upper-Intermediate) level
