Java Developer with Spring Boot
About the Position
We are looking for two Backend Software Engineers (Junior to Middle level) to join a cross-functional squad on the Payments Platform. This is a hands-on execution role: designing, building, testing and operating payment services with clean, maintainable Java code, applying SOLID principles and design patterns, and handling sensitive financial data securely. The engineer works closely with business experts, UX/UI designers and the infrastructure/delivery teams, owning the quality and reliability of what they ship in production.
About the Project
The client is building its new Payments Platform: a modular, cloud-native backend that connects customer experience, business and technology across every market in the region. The platform drives conversion (frictionless and one-click checkout, local payment methods and currencies, intelligent retry of failed authorizations), operational efficiency (smart routing of each transaction to the processor with the best success/cost ratio, automated reconciliation and chargeback handling) and new revenue models (subscriptions, recurring payments, BNPL, and a loyalty wallet enabling hybrid miles + money payments).
About the Team
You will work in a cross functional squad with Backend Software Engineers, business experts, UX UI designers, and infrastructure and delivery specialists. The team collaborates closely in an Agile environment and shares ownership of quality, reliability, and production outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Design backend services and REST APIs for the Payments Platform using Java and Spring Boot
- Develop and maintain backend services with clean, testable, and maintainable code
- Apply SOLID principles and established design patterns in software development
- Implement unit, integration, and contract tests to support software quality
- Apply secure coding practices for API security and safe handling of payment and customer data
- Collaborate with infrastructure and delivery teams on CI/CD pipelines
- Deploy and operate services in a cloud environment with attention to scalability, security, and resilience
- Monitor production performance and resolve incidents proactively
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily stand ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Document technical solutions and share knowledge with the team
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional backend development experience with Java
- Hands on experience with Spring Boot building production services
- Solid understanding of SOLID principles and common design patterns
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
- Experience with automated testing including unit and integration testing
- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Exposure to Google Cloud and GKE
- Familiarity with Git based workflows and CI/CD concepts
- Fluency in Spanish and intermediate English for documentation and international collaboration
Nice to Have
- Experience with contract testing
- Experience with PostgreSQL
- Awareness of API security and secure handling and transfer of sensitive data
- Exposure to cloud platforms, containers, and microservices
- Familiarity with event driven systems such as Pub Sub or Kafka
