Room 8 Studio is looking for a proficient and experienced Senior Game Deisgner who will serve on a AAA remake of one of the most acclaimed squad-based tactical shooters of its era, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. Working directly under the Creative Director, you will execute their creative vision across all gameplay systems and own the decisions that sit beneath it — the 3Cs, the systems bar, and the quality of everything that ships through the game design team.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in Game Design on AA/AAA PC or console titles.
- At least one shipped title in a Senior or Lead role with clear ownership of gameplay systems.
- Deep, hands-on understanding of FPS 3Cs — movement, aiming, camera behaviour, and weapon handling.
- Demonstrated experience leading a Game Design team through a full production cycle.
- Strong systems design foundations — AI behavior integration, difficulty and pacing tuning, combat loop design, and progression.
- Proficient in Unreal Engine 5 — Blueprint scripting, design tooling, and in-engine prototyping.
- Clear communicator across disciplines with strong documentation habits.
- Excellent written and verbal English.
Would be a plus
- Background in squad-based or FPS systems.
- Co-op and meta design experience.
- Experience shipping a remake, reboot, or reimagining of an existing title.
- Background in late-stage polish, tuning, and design QA cycles.
- Experience mentoring designers or leading design initiatives across a team.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary design authority day to day, translating the Creative vision into cohesive, high-quality gameplay systems and design output.
- Define and protect the design bar for all USPs.
- Own the 3Cs end to end, ensuring combat feel, movement, and squad interaction meet a consistently high-quality bar across all scenarios and platforms.
- Review and approve all systems-level design work before milestone gates.
- Work closely with Art and Narrative teams to ensure gameplay tone, environmental authenticity, and franchise canon alignment across all design output.
- Lead and mentor the Game Design team — set design standards, conduct design reviews, support individual development, and maintain team accountability.
- Collaborate with Lead Level Designer to define encounter design philosophy and escalation structure for squad-based linear combat.
- Maintain detailed design documentation.
