Cubic Games is a game development studio and part of the GDEV holding. We’ve grown from a small team into a leading developer with over 120 specialists. Our flagship title, Pixel Gun 3D, is one of the most popular pixel shooters, with over 5 million monthly players.
We're currently working on a new, unannounced cross-platform shooter and are looking for a VFX Artist who can help make the visual effects expressive, technologically advanced, and impactful.
Why You'll Be Interested:
- Be part of a commercially successful team that values expertise and supports professional growth.
- No bureaucracy or pointless checkboxes — your work directly impacts the result, and you get to see it come alive in the game.
- You'll join a team that values expertise, responsibility, engagement, and collaboration:
- We dive deep into our craft and make data-driven decisions.
- We focus not just on task completion, but also on their impact on players and the product.
- We’re open to dialogue, support each other, and pursue shared goals.
- We're passionate about what we do and love creating awesome stuff together.
Responsibilities:
- Create stylized, expressive VFX for a first-person shooter, aligned with current industry trends. Effects include weapons, environments and interactions, characters, enemies, and UI.
- Integrate and configure VFX in Unity (including VFX Graph and Particle System).
- Optimize effects for mobile platforms (Android/iOS), considering constraints like performance, memory, and battery life.
- Adapt effects for a range of devices (from low-end smartphones to PCs), maintaining visual quality.
- Develop reference libraries (collect and analyze competitor styles, concept art).
- Design technical implementations for complex effects (e.g., combining particles, shaders, and animation).
- Build prototypes for quick testing and iterations.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience creating VFX for stylized games, ideally shooters (FPS/TPS).
- Strong knowledge of Unity3D, VFX Graph, Amplify, Particle System, and experience with URP.
- Proficiency with tools like Blender, Photoshop, etc.
Technical skills:
- Understanding of optimization techniques (overdraw, billboards, atlases, LOD, etc.).
- Knowledge of physics and dynamics (e.g., fragmentation, mass, inertia).
- Ability to work with animated objects (e.g., animated VFX elements).
Artistic skills:
- Good sense of style, composition, and color — able to create readable effects in dynamic gameplay.
- Understanding of contrast, visual focus, and other artistic principles.
- Ability to create hand-drawn/stylized effects.
- Capability to create 3D assets needed for effects, unwrap details, etc.
- A portfolio showcasing stylized VFX (with technical breakdowns is a must).
- Creative mindset and willingness to experiment with new techniques.
- Ability to work in a team, take feedback, and make adjustments.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Passion for pixel/voxel art.
- Ability to write shaders without node editors.
- Deep technical knowledge.
- Skills in frame-by-frame animation.
- Ability to draw or generate flipbooks.

- Independence in handling VFX from concept to integration.
- Knowledge of Houdini, EmberGen.
