About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and solid organizational capabilities to drive a large-scale platform modernization initiative. The primary objective is to support the migration of a legacy platform built on PHP/Yii 1 to a modern architecture based on Node.js and React. This role combines technical leadership, hands-on development, client collaboration, and delivery coordination. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working directly with the client, translating business requirements into actionable technical tasks, managing the development backlog, and ensuring consistent progress across engineering activities. This role has a stronger focus on technical coordination, stakeholder communication, and delivery execution, while maintaining active involvement in development.

About the Project

The Platform Modernization project is focused on transforming a legacy platform into a modern solution built with Node.js and React. You will help analyze the current system, support migration planning, and contribute to delivery execution across technical and business streams.

About the Team

You will work with developers, QA engineers, and stakeholders in an Agile and distributed environment. The collaboration style includes regular planning, backlog refinement, technical discussions, progress tracking, and close communication across engineering and client facing activities.

Responsibilities

Drive technical decisions and contribute to the target architecture for the modernized platform
Analyze the existing PHP and Yii 1 codebase and define practical migration approaches
Participate in hands on development using Node.js and React
Design and implement scalable backend services, APIs, and platform integrations
Provide technical guidance to developers and support resolution of complex technical challenges
Ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to engineering best practices
Act as the primary technical point of contact for the client
Translate business needs into well defined technical tasks and actionable backlog items
Own technical backlog preparation, refinement, and prioritization
Coordinate development activities, track progress, and manage blockers and dependencies
Provide regular progress updates and ensure transparency with stakeholders
Facilitate technical discussions, planning sessions, and backlog refinement meetings
Work closely with developers, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to support smooth delivery
Support effort estimation, implementation planning, and realistic delivery commitments

Requirements

Strong hands on experience with Node.js and backend development
Solid React and modern frontend development skills
Strong knowledge of SQL databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
Good understanding of software architecture, API design, and system integrations
Experience with legacy system modernization or migration projects
Ability to analyze existing systems and define practical implementation plans
Proven experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Developer, or Senior Engineer with technical coordination responsibilities
Strong organizational and planning skills
Experience in backlog management, requirements clarification, and task decomposition
Experience coordinating engineering activities, tracking progress, and addressing blockers and dependencies
Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non technical audiences
Strong English communication skills in written and verbal form
Experience working in Agile and distributed team environments

Nice to Have

Experience using AI assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar
Experience with PHP and the Yii 1 framework
Experience migrating monolithic applications to modern architectures
Experience designing microservices or modular architectures
Experience in client facing engineering or consulting environments
Experience with Jira or similar delivery management tools
Experience coordinating cross functional teams across multiple locations or time zones
