Project description
Our team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to drive the platform architecture and software development of our next-generation video conferencing hardware appliances. In this role, you will work at the intersection of native platform engineering and enterprise collaboration, architecting and optimizing a customized Android Open Source Project (AOSP) ecosystem powering modern meeting spaces, from huddle rooms to enterprise boardrooms.
You will design and implement resilient platform middleware, optimize platform services, and fine-tune system-level performance. You will be responsible for ensuring that our dedicated conferencing appliances deliver reliable operation, seamless peripheral integration, and rock-solid platform stability.
Responsibilities
- - AOSP Platform & Framework Engineering: Customize, extend, and maintain AOSP system services, platform middleware, and framework APIs tailored for enterprise collaboration appliances.
- Subsystem & Framework Integration: Work directly with core Android subsystems, including Camera, Display, Audio, and Hardware Abstraction Layers (HALs) to ensure seamless hardware and OS communication.
- System-Level Optimization: Analyze and optimize boot time, power distribution, thermal constraints, memory footprint, CPU/GPU utilization, and application responsiveness across the platform.
- Hardware & Peripheral Support: Enable and stabilize integration with enterprise conferencing hardware and peripherals, including multi-mic arrays, PTZ cameras, DSPs, touch controllers, and USB/HDMI capture devices via Android platform interfaces.
- Deep Diagnostics & Debugging: Triage and resolve complex, intermittent system failures across applications, native middleware, and framework daemons using advanced tracing tools.
- Ecosystem & Certification Support: Partner with major conferencing ecosystem partners (e.g., Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Google Meet) to integrate, certify, and optimize runtime performance on our hardware.
- Architecture & Best Practices: Drive test-driven development (TDD), comprehensive code reviews, automated validation frameworks, and clear architectural documentation for internal and partner engineering teams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Firmware, Product, and QA teams in an Agile environment to take features from platform bring-up to mass production.
SKILLS
Must have
- - 5+ years of software engineering experience with a primary focus on Android development, AOSP customization, and platform-level engineering.
- Language Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Java and C/C++, with a strong background in JNI for cross-boundary communication between native middleware and high-level platform components.
- Android Internals Expertise: Deep architectural knowledge of Android system internals, platform lifecycles, and IPC mechanisms (Binder, AIDL, system services, and HAL interfaces).
- Low-Level Diagnostics: Demonstrated ability to analyze, profile, and resolve complex platform issues using tools such as Perfetto, Systrace, Logcat, Tombstones, ANR traces, and native crash dumps.
- Build Systems & OS Fundamentals: Proficient with AOSP build environments (Soong, Blueprint, Makefiles), operating system concepts, multithreading/concurrency models, and memory management.
- Engineering Rigor: Proven track record in writing unit tests, integration tests, and automation harnesses to guarantee enterprise-grade product stability.
Nice to have
- Chromium & WebView Customization: Experience maintaining, building, or patching a custom Chromium WebView APK/source tree within an AOSP build environment, including optimizing web runtime rendering and memory.
- Web-to-Native Integration: Experience designing secure, high-performance JavaScript Bridges / Interfaces to expose native hardware controls and platform APIs to web-based client applications.
- Web Technologies: Familiarity with modern web standards (JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5) and WebRTC.
- HAL Architecture: Familiarity with modern Android HAL development (AIDL/HIDL) and integration patterns for connected peripherals.
- Enterprise Video Clients: Direct experience deploying, troubleshooting, or certifying appliances for Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR), Zoom Rooms, or Google Meet hardware.
