At Bumble, we're building a world where healthy relationships thrive, and intelligent software helps millions of people make meaningful connections every day.
As a Senior Software Engineer on our AI & Intelligent Systems team, you'll build scalable backend services and distributed systems that power AI-enabled experiences across Bumble. Working closely with Machine Learning Engineers, Product Managers, and Data Scientists, you'll develop the infrastructure and applications that bring intelligent features into production while ensuring they remain reliable, performant, and easy to evolve.
This role is ideal for experienced software engineers who enjoy solving complex engineering problems, integrating AI into production systems, and building modern cloud-native applications at scale. Experience with recommendation systems is valuable, but not required. We're equally interested in engineers who have built location-aware products, geospatial systems, intelligent APIs, or AI-powered user experiences.
What You’ll Do
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Kotlin, Go, and Python.
Develop distributed systems and APIs that power AI-enabled product experiences for millions of Bumble members.
Partner with Machine Learning Engineers to productionize models, build inference services, and integrate AI capabilities into customer-facing products.
Design cloud-native systems that are reliable, observable, secure, and resilient while balancing performance, scalability, and operational excellence.
Build services that leverage Geospatial (GIS) data, location intelligence, and Recommendation & Matching Systems capabilities to create more personalized and context-aware experiences.
Contribute to system architecture, technical design reviews, and engineering standards across the organization.
Use modern AI-assisted engineering tools to improve developer productivity while maintaining high engineering quality and member trust.
Mentor other engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and collaborative problem solving.
About you
5+ years of experience building production backend software or distributed systems.
Strong software engineering experience with Kotlin, Go, Python, or closely related languages such as Java.
Experience designing and operating cloud-native services on GCP, AWS, or Azure.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, asynchronous messaging, and modern software architecture.
Experience integrating AI or machine learning into production software, including model serving, inference services, LLM APIs, or AI-powered product features.
Familiarity with machine learning concepts and the software engineering practices required to deploy, monitor, and scale AI-powered systems.
Experience building geospatial or location-aware applications is highly desirable, including technologies such as GPS services, mapping APIs, spatial databases (e.g., PostGIS), routing, or location intelligence.
Experience with recommendation systems, search, ranking, personalization, or experimentation platforms is a plus, but not required.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to partner effectively across Engineering, Product, Design, and Data Science.
