Senior Full Stack Developer with Python and AI

About the Position

We are looking for a senior, full-stack, agentic-forward engineer to help build a central search and discovery platform, combining data from multiple internal authority services into a unified index and contributing to natural language search as a service. This is a low process, high autonomy environment. The client values seniority, methodology, and judgment more than a checklist of specific tools. There is no single ideal candidate profile. Strong fundamentals and sound judgment, with and without agentic tools, are more important than framework familiarity.

About the Project

This project focuses on building a central search and discovery platform that aggregates data from multiple internal "authority" services via event subscriptions and APIs, builds unified indexes, and exposes natural language search as a service across the business. Related in flight components include an API or GraphQL layer and a natural language discovery and API layer.

About the Team

You will join a small, closely connected engineering team consisting of two full time engineers, a DA member working on the agentic and API side, a tech lead overseeing the workstream, and a product owner. The team is deliberately lean, favors direct ownership over heavy process, and is actively shaping how agentic engineering practices are implemented rather than adopting a predefined standard.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the aggregated search and discovery platform, combining data from multiple internal authority services into a unified index
• Contribute to natural language search as a service, translating human queries into structured search using OpenSearch
• Work across the stack, including backend services and frontend development in Angular with a transition to React
• Use agentic tools and AI assisted development in daily work, applying judgment to ensure scalable and robust code rather than simply increasing output
• Help shape the client's emerging agentic engineering standards, contributing ideas while remaining open to existing direction
• Collaborate closely with the tech lead and product owner with minimal day to day oversight
• Ramp up within an existing, moderately documented codebase with direct knowledge transfer from the tech lead

Requirements

• Senior level engineering experience working on production systems
• Strong Python fundamentals, with the ability to produce scalable and robust code even when using agentic tooling
• Full stack and frontend experience, including Angular with a transition to React, without strict preference for a specific framework
• Comfort working in a low specification environment, proposing solutions and defining direction rather than waiting for detailed requirements
• Curiosity and proactive approach to problem solving

Nice to Have

• Experience with data pipelines or MLOps
• Exposure to LLM fine tuning
• DevOps experience
• Interest in and opinions on agentic engineering practices, with willingness to help shape team standards
