Senior DevOps Engineer
We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a greenfield initiative building a brand-new enterprise data platform and integration layer from scratch for a national-scale sustainability-sector organisation launching a new nationwide sustainability operation with multiple large corporate vendors and suppliers. In this role, you will work alongside a third-party infrastructure provider delivering Azure as a Service, shaping the platform’s foundations during Discovery and then driving its implementation through Azure DevOps pipelines and Terraform-based infrastructure as code.
Essential functions
- Discovery & Platform Foundations: Help define the DevOps and infrastructure approach for a new Azure-native data platform during Discovery, then carry it through to implementation on Databricks or the newer Microsoft data stack (Fabric/Purview).
- Infrastructure as Code: Design, build and maintain the platform’s Azure infrastructure with Terraform, keeping environments consistent, repeatable and ready for a national rollout.
- CI/CD with Azure DevOps: Build and own the delivery pipelines for the data and integration platforms, automating build, test and deployment across environments.
- Security & Privacy by Design: Embed security and privacy controls into infrastructure and pipelines for a platform that will handle billions in funds and the personal data of tens of millions of people from day one.
- Third-Party Collaboration: Work closely with the external infrastructure company providing Azure as a Service, aligning responsibilities, environments and changes between their team and ours.
Qualifications
- Proven commercial experience as a DevOps Engineer on Microsoft Azure.
- Azure DevOps Expertise: Strong hands-on experience building and running CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
- Terraform: Solid experience provisioning and managing Azure infrastructure as code with Terraform.
- Security & Privacy Awareness: Good understanding of security practices and data privacy requirements for platforms holding large volumes of PII and sensitive financial data.
- Senior Autonomy: Ability to work independently in a distributed team of senior professionals within an Agile/Scrum delivery model, using Jira and Confluence.
Would be a plus
- Data Platform Experience: Hands-on work with Databricks or Microsoft Fabric/Purview on Azure.
- Greenfield Builds: Experience setting up a data or integration platform from scratch, including the Discovery phase.
- Managed Infrastructure Providers: Experience working with a third-party provider that hosts or manages Azure environments.
- UK Client Engagement: Comfort working with UK-based stakeholders and joining client meetings focused on the UK.
