We are looking for a Lead UI Tech Designer to bridge design and engineering by building scalable UI systems in Unreal Engine with a focus on architecture, performance, and game feel. You will translate wireframes into reusable widgets and navigation flows while partnering closely across disciplines—apply to help ship polished, responsive UI experiences.
Responsibilities
- Design UI system architecture by decomposing features and wireframes into widgets, structures, and classes
- Build reusable and extensible widget libraries that enable consistent, scalable UI development
- Implement wireframe layouts using appropriate widget classes to unblock visual styling workflows
- Translate UX and visual design needs into clear technical requirements for engineering partners
- Ensure player input mapping is responsive and supports appropriate game feel across UI flows
- Own UI performance by profiling UMG, Slate, C++, and texture memory costs within CPU and memory budgets
- Write Blueprint presentation logic and advise what belongs in Blueprint versus native code
- Debug Blueprint and UMG issues quickly using fault-isolation techniques
- Coordinate documentation, organization, and workflow improvements across UX, UI art, and UI engineering
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience as a UI Tech Designer, Technical UI Artist, or similar hybrid role
- Proven leadership skills bridging design and engineering to align technical and UX goals
- Strong project ownership skills to drive ambiguous UI system problems to shippable solutions
- Deep Unreal Engine 5 experience with UMG, Slate, and Blueprints on shipped UI screens and flows
- Strong UI systems design skills to create reusable, extensible widgets, structures, and classes
- Solid UI performance knowledge across memory and CPU constraints in real-time engines
- Proven navigation and state management experience for complex, context-dependent UI flows
- Strong style sheet and style set experience to ensure consistent theming across many screens
- Excellent collaboration skills with UX, UI art, and engineering partners
- Upper-Intermediate English proficiency (B2)
- Ability to maintain reasonable working-time overlap with clients in Cary, NC

- Experience building scoped or context-driven navigation systems
- Familiarity with large-scale discovery or storefront UI patterns
- Advanced Blueprint scripting beyond basic UI wiring
- Experience working with AI assistants to improve UI workflows or documentation
- Strong understanding of gaming UI conventions and interaction patterns
