We’re looking for a Rust Backend Developer to join the team building the server platform for our game OneState.
The platform powers key game systems, including player accounts and sessions, the in-game and web stores, payments and subscriptions, reward delivery, promotional mechanics, experiments, and analytics.
We’re looking for someone who can write production-ready code and independently take a task from requirements to release and validation in production. You should have a strong understanding of transactions, API compatibility, event delivery, external system failures, and the challenges of building reliable distributed services.
Our tech stack:
Rust, Tokio, Tonic, gRPC, Protobuf, Kafka, SQL, MariaDB / MySQL / PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry.
What we want to see:
- Commercial experience with Rust, including async development with Tokio, error handling, traits, and ownership.
- Experience developing and maintaining backend APIs and background workers in production.
- Solid SQL skills: transactions, indexes, constraints, query analysis, and safe database migrations.
- Understanding of distributed systems, including timeouts, retries, idempotency, partial failures, and data consistency.
- Experience with gRPC / Protobuf or similar approaches to strict, versioned API contracts.
- Experience writing automated tests, reviewing code, and working with existing codebases.
- Ability to diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, and distributed traces.
- Russian language proficiency at C1 level.
- Willingness to work from our office in Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, or Cyprus.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Kafka or another event streaming platform, including transactional outbox, dead-letter queues (DLQ), and change data capture (CDC).
- Experience with ClickHouse and event stream processing.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, GKE, ArgoCD, and GitOps.
- Experience with OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, JWT, and centralized authorization.
- Experience integrating with the App Store and Google Play, including subscriptions and B2C monetization.
- Knowledge of Go for working with the gateway and TypeScript / NestJS for the web layer.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, SLOs, and production incident investigation.
- Practical experience using AI agents in software development.
What you'll do:
- Develop business logic and background workers in Rust.
- Design and evolve gRPC / REST APIs while maintaining backward compatibility.
- Work with transactions, database migrations, indexes, and queries in MariaDB / MySQL / PostgreSQL.
- Design reliable event processing, including outbox patterns, retries, idempotency, ordering, dead-letter queues, and recovery from failures.
- Integrate internal services with external systems, including the App Store, Google Play, and OAuth / OIDC providers.
- Write unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews.
- Add distributed tracing and metrics, investigate errors, and troubleshoot issues in production.
- Take changes through development, staging, and production, ensuring they work as expected.
Growth and development
Our project is continuously growing, just like the teams behind it. We invest in the growth of team members, conduct regular performance reviews, and review salaries based on performance.
Care for employees
